German Decathlete Breaks Record After 39 Years
Leo Neugebauer Sets New German Decathlon Record
German multi-event track and field athlete Leo Neugebauer has broken the 39-year-old German decathlon record held by Jürgen Hingsen. Neugebauer, born on June 19, 2000, achieved a score of 8836 points at the Paris Championships, surpassing Hingsen's previous record of 8830 points set in 1984.
Strong First Day Performance
Neugebauer had a strong start to the two-day event, finishing the first half of the decathlon in 12th place after a solid performance in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter dash.
Missed Opportunities in Pole Vault
Despite a setback in the pole vault, where Neugebauer lost some points, he remained in contention for the gold medal. In the subsequent events, he continued to perform well, securing a silver medal in the decathlon.
